Mother/Son Dance - Our Top 10 Untraditional (and some traditional) Song Choices for your

Hey there! So excited your checking out this article on our favorite picks for the top 10 mother/son dance songs for 2019 for your wedding.

We all know that all the formal dances can be at times awkward depending on how long the song goes and if it is an  appropriate song for the moment.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard some love song for the dance that’s just a little too graphic and ends up being awkward for everyone!  We want to help you avoid that at all costs so here is our top 10 picks for mother son dances for your wedding! On top of that we set these songs up on a link that will open them in your favorite player so you can save them for reviewing later!

10 - Rascal Flats | My Wish

This song is a VERY popular and has been for some time.  It has some beautiful lines in it that will get the tears going for everyone at your wedding!  On top of that it isn’t a love song between a couple so it’s not weird at all!

09 - Kenny Cheney | Don’t Blink

Shocker another country song.  Don’t worry there isn’t any more haha!  This one is a great emotional piece about how fast life moves and before you know it your older and a lot of life has happened.  A great time to look back and cherish the times you two have shared as mother and son and a great call to live in the present moment.

08 - Edwin McCain | Letter To My Mother

07- Boz II Men | A Song For Mama

This is another classic that I hear here and there but not overplayed.  It is specifically written form a son to a mother so no weirdness and nothing but meaningful words!

06 - Backstreet Boys | Perfect Fan

05 - John Mayer | Wheel

This one is very honest and introspective about changes in seasons in our lives but I think it’s a real tear jerker!

04 - Meghan Trainor | Mom

This song is super fun and upbeat!

03- Ellie Goulding | How Long Will I Love You

This one is actually really touching and Ellie’s voice with some piano...how can you go wrong?

02 - Martin Garrix | Ocean

This is a new top hit that I think you’ll enjoy.  Definitely not a traditional choice!

01 - Iron & Wine | Time After Time Cover

This cover is deliciously hipster and to be honest really beautiful.  I have a very special place in my heart for acoustic music and this singer songwriter version is very posterful and sure to get some tears.

In all honesty I thought it would be much cooler to do a “top 12” picks but honestly is was so hard to come up with 10 due to either random lines in the song that made it weird or just too many from back-in-the-day, or country (no offense).  Hopefully this guide helps you pick out some more recent songs that still touch your heart!

5 Moments Brides Regret Missing When They Skip On A Wedding Video

Often brides come to us because someone they know has told them that a wedding video is a MUST for them. Although it may seem hard to justify after looking at all the other vendors and venues that require a piece of your budget it is incredibly important to realize that not only is the wedding video one of the few things you will take away from your wedding (besides the photos and the top of the cake) there are quite a few things that you may regret not playing back.

1. TOASTS

Toasts can be a bit of a mixed bag can’t they!? I guess it depends on how hard you partied in college or at your bachelor/ette party! Besides the plethora of embarrassing stories let be honest, how often do people stand up and declare your best personal qualities and adventures through life? I can’t tell you how many times that a father that has kept his cool most of the day and totally tears up when he recounts the lifetime of memories he’s had with you. If you have been through some “stuff” you will be able to hear your best best man/maid-of-honor tell the emotional story of how going through those situations, both good and bad, made you two stronger and drew you closer together.

During a wedding for my sister-and-law, my wife had made a hilarious remix cover song of “Your Welcome” from Moana that had the whole room roaring with laughter and made for one of the most unique and clever toast I have heard. (Maybe I’m a little biased) Would you want just a photo to remember something like that by?

2. CEREMONY

Often you have written your own vows to express not only your deepest feelings but what you truly want for your relationship. Is a picture of that cool? Of course! But will you remember HOW they said it to you?

What about when your fiancee’s eyes get moist when he sees you walk down the aisle with your veil down?

Depending on how entertaining a choice of officiant you make the embarrassing and charming stories of your relationship and history can be retold as well. Relive those memories forever with a wedding video!

3. DANCES

At Nomad Wedding Films we include the audio from your dances in your video. Not everyone does this. We do this not only because we strive to capture your day as completely as possible but also because it is another one of your senses that we love to include so that when you watch the video it stirs up all the same feelings.

Many times we have recorded talented couples that put together beautiful dances for both their first dances, mother/son, and father/daughter dances. What an unfortunate thing to miss! And, no judgment, it’s nice to show off online that you got dance chops and that you killed it at your wedding!

4. FIRST LOOK

One of my favorite first look moments that I got to put in a wedding film was of a couple that stood back-to-back by a beautiful tree. They had so many memories together as they had been together a long time and had a child together. His commitment to not only her but their family had her in tears and he didn’t keep a dry eye for long either when she started. I was so happy to capture that moment that they can now play back for their kids.

I know not everyone does these but First Looks are very precious times that we love recording for their first look at their beautiful woman. Maybe your father doesn’t say much and he opens up a little at the first look. What if your fiancee has a meaningful speech prepared for you that you didn’t anticipate? Best to be prepared.

5. THE ABILTY TO RELIVE YOUR DAY

I know I’m biased when it comes to my passion and belief in wedding films.  But I challenge you with this…try to remember what you had for breakfast a week ago.  I can’t remember what I had 2 days ago.

There was a book series I read (Star Wars: Hand of Thrawn trilogy).  I ended up listening to a specific cd while I was reading and EVERY TIME I hear anything from that artist I think of the time I read those books.

Our senses are powerful triggers to remember moments, people, and feelings.

When the months and months of decisions and planning and coordinating are over and the wedding day comes to a close, and you’ve finally come back from an amazing honeymoon, it will be such a wonderful time to watch your wedding day video a month later and relive that emotion packed day and catch all the things you missed.

Hopefully this brought you some clarity to your decision or at the very least let you know why I’m so passionate about what I do!

3 Things To Avoid When Choosing A Wedding Cinematographer

1.  Shaky Footage

Imagine your sitting in your living room couch. Air is on cold, your sitting closely with your new spouse, and you have a drink in your hand and your ready to watch your wedding film.  You hit play on the DVD menu and then it happens....your guests are shaking, your ceremony is shaking, the lady doing makeup while your getting ready is shaking.

Have you ever seen Cloverfield? Yeah like that. Stomachs churning, head spinning, yuk. That's one thing I recommend looking for when your searching for a quality wedding cinematographer. Camera movement is great but shaking is a whole other story.

2.  Bad Soundtrack

If you have ever watched a scary movie that was so intense that left you on the edge of your seat? Now imagine matching that same scary movie but with the Barney theme song.  Not quite the same experience!

Typically we try to go for more of a singer/songwriter approach that creates a very casual laid-back vibe to the wedding. It tends to be very romantic and touching. Not all weddings call for that style so you want to make sure that the cinematographer either will pick something that complements your style or they already have that style built into their work.

3.  Bad Audio

This is one of the hardest things about getting a wedding film correct. It's something that will separate a lot of wedding filmmakers. Audio is a huge foundation of a good film and you're going to want to talk to your potential wedding cinematographer to make sure that he has enough audio gear to be flexible during the wedding day.  The audio, after all, is the whole reason why you get a wedding film so you can hear the vows, the toasts, and any other behind the scenes discussions and well wishes.

If you have any questions on good questions about a potential wedding cinematographer, or if your curious on how we approach quality crafted wedding films, whether here in Phoenix Arizona or abroad, please fill out the form in the contact page and I'll answer as soon as I can!  Thanks :)
