BTW | SHOW - Enlighten Studios - Best Thing About Weddings

Yvonne: I like to see them, I love it at the end, kind of I talked about it earlier, I love it at the end when they're so happy and usually like the hugs, I get tons of hugs, I, besides coffee subsist on hugs, I've been told I'm a great hugger.

Steven: Hugs are on point.

Y: I don't really know what that means but I love to give hugs, it's like the ultimate form of gratefulness, thankfulness on both ends and that is my favorite part when I see the whole thing come together and I am kind of like, "(*sigh) ok we are done yay". There's bobby pins and makeup brushes and everything kind of strewn around and I'm like "ok we gotta clean this up" and then I just see them so happy and especially when their husbands are like "you did an amazing job, thank you for helping my wife to look so amazing on her big day". So those are the great things that I look forward to at the end.

BTW | SHOW - Enlighten Studios - Is It Important To Book Hair/Makeup Early?

Steven:  So let's say I'm a bride and I'm having my wedding in like a year, is it important for me to book ahead?

Yvonne:  Yes you should book ahead for sure.  100%!

S:  Why?

Y:  Because that's going to take the stress out of it.  I have a great hair dresser, I found the person I want to do my hair and my makeup or the group of people that I want to do my hair and makeup and I know I have them solidified for that.  Your good to go.

S:  So if we want you you might be busy?

Y:  Yes there's only so many weekends a year so we need to make sure.  That does happen and I feel sorry.  If you call 2 weeks out or whatever "I heard your really great and I really want you to do you hair and makeup for my wedding party."

"Sorry I'm already booked!"

That and it can be difficult to find a great trustworthy group of makeup artists professionals who come in and do your wedding.

BTW | SHOW - Getting to know Yvonne of Enlighten Studios

Steven:  Alright we so hear all about how you nerd out on color and I'm guessing there is another issue...

Yvonne: This is an issue?  What makes you think this is an issue? (Points to coffee station)

S: No issue at all I see all kind of delicious favors here!  So you are a bit of a coffeeholic.

Y:  Yes I'm a hair dresser so it's hair and coffee.  I have sustained on just coffee on busy days and it's my happy place.  I'm not like so particular it doesn't have  to be some fruffy latte blah blah blah.  I mean that's great! Haha!

S: You need to bring in a blender for cappachinos!  That's what needs to happen.  This is actually somewhat incomplete now that I'm looking.

Y:  Now we need like a barista!  I grew up on coffee, started drinking at the age of 5.  My grandma got me started.  Lots of cream lots of sugar.

S:  It's usually a grandma thing.

Y:  I'm not really sure what's up with that but she had a percolator one of those old school ones, I'm kinda dating myself I feel like, but it percolated and then it came out and I was all mesmerized by the whole coffee experience and it smelled amazing and I'm like "wow!"  Lots of cream lots of sugar.  I can drink it black now in a pinch cause that's how much I need the coffee.

S: Thank you for watching this has been Yvonne with Enlighten Studios showing us around thank you so much for opening up your studio!

Y:  Well thank you for coming!

S:  It was my pleasure and now I need some coffee!

BTW | SHOW - Hair & Beauty for Your Wedding Day - Host: Enlighten Studios

Our very first episode of BEHINDTHEWEDDING | SHOW!

I can't tell you how excited I am to be creating content that will help brides and grooms not only prepare for their wedding day but give them insider knowledge on choosing the right vendors for them.  Who better to give them the ins-and-outs than the vendors themselves?  Thanks for watching and hope you find it helpful :)

Steven:  Hello and welcome to the Behind-the-wedding show with your host me, Steven Burkhat.  I'm here at the very noisy intersection of Scottsdale and Camelback at Enlighten Studios where Yvonne is going to show us all the cool stuff about hair and makeup for your wedding!   Let's go inside and check it out!

S:  Hey how you doing I'm Steven!

Yvonne: Hi I'm Yvonne good to meet you!

S: Awesome to tell me a little about yourself, what do we got here.

Y:  Well this is where everyone comes to get beautiful for all kinds of different reasons and especially for there wedding.

S:  Well why don't you show me around!

Y:  Awesome! Cool! So right behind you is the make up area where we get our makeup done and have all of our products and then we have our hair stations and out color station in the back.

S:  Ok so here we are at the makeup station so tell me all about this.

Y:  So right here is where the custom blend foundation.   So usually what we do is we have our brides come in prior and do a trial so we can go through all their photos usually they have a Pinterest page, cause everyone has Pinterest pages, so they'll show me all of different looks of what they want, of what kind of bride they want to create for their day.  It's really important for me to know that cause I want to be able to recreate that for them so they have those Pinterest worthy photos going forward.  But also I want them to understand that this is the day that their pictures going to be taken, out of all the days of their lives, this is the days that their pictures going to be taken the most so they really want to look beautiful.   For me my personal feeing on a wedding is that your look transcends time so you always look like this beautiful bride at 20 years, 30 years, 50 years, whatever it is when your grandchildren are looking at them saying "oh wow you look like this beautiful bride". So that my interpretation of what a bride should look like.  And with the custom foundation they come in prior and we blend that for them so

1. they have a perfect match for their skin tones and color and

2. they have the perfect coverage.

So there going to come in a spend a little time prior but there going to have that best look going forward.  So a little time investment in the beginning is going to be the best for their wedding as a whole.

Y:  That was the thing I think I didn't realize when I got married like "whoa there just a lot of photos."  So after I had that experience I want my brides to understand lets really let us make you look beautiful cause that camera is in your face whether it's a video camera or a professional photographer and all the iPhones everywhere we want you to look really really great for that day.

S:  Ok so what do we have over here?

Y:  This is the hair stations.  This is where I feel the most comfortable thing cause I have been doing hair for 20 plus years.  So this is where everyone gets their hair done and I've been a matrix educator so I work for the company as an educator for them for 18 years so that's been really helpful in my hair dressing career cause I'm been able to take all that knowledge and bring it to my clients.

S:  So tell me about color what do I needed to know if I'm a bride.

Y:  You should not get your color done the week of your wedding.  You should definitely have not get your color done the day of your wedding.  Just like we plan out what the architecture of the hair is going to be you want to have some plan of what the color is going to be.  So I always suggest about 2 weeks out getting your color done.  Go to your colorist.  Don't try any new things.  Don't be a redhead trying to be blonde or your blonde and now you want to be goth dark.  Don't do these things before you wedding cause it causes so much stress and drama and your trying to create a "look".  No major changes!  All major changes should happen after you get married with haircuts and color.

S:  Or maybe months ahead of your wedding?

Y: Yes like month and months.  So don't do anything right at the onset, 2 weeks out, or even a month out don't do any crazy changes.

S: So you sound super passionate about makeup, hair, especially hair, hair color, but one thing we haven't talked about is what got you started.  What got this ball of neediness going.

Y:  The whole all of nerdiness

S:  I don't know what else to call it.

Y:  I love it!   My uncle was a hair dresser and I always loved watching him do hair and someone asked me when when I was like 7 years old, "what do you want to be when you grow up"?  And I'm like, "I want to comb hair like my uncle tony and I just thought that's what he did, I mean he did do that obviously, but everyone looked so amazing afterwards but more than that it was the feeling I saw, that I recognized at 7 years old, everyone was so happy!  Nobody left sad.  Everyone looked and felt amazing whether they looked like they could be on the cover of Cosmo or not they totally felt like that.  That's how I want to make people feel.  So I didn't really know how I was going to make that happen but at 20 or so years old I was like, "phone book, beauty schools, here I come!"  And here I am!
